Year 2012: Lesson We've Learned This Year

Happiness in life isn't always in our control.

Sometimes we happily stumble across it, other times it's yanked away from us. You mustn't leave happiness to chance, however. If you can identify what's standing in the way of it today, then future happiness is certainly within reach. Each of our 12 Better Man days will focus on a different area of male life that has the potential to improve your overall happiness. So we'll provide the instruction manuals, but it's up to you to go after it.

Unboxing: Oakley Crosslink™

During last festive Christmas holiday, while people were busy hunting for their christmas presents for family and friends, I was busy hunting for a new pair of glasses.

My existing glasses frame broke after 4 years.

I started my hunt on the same day of my movie screening 'Here Comes The Boom' at One Utama, Damansara Utama. With an expectation in getting a new pair of frame, which would fit my old lenses, my eyes got attention on a pair of frame --- the Oakley Crosslink.

Did a quick 'google' on this glasses on my mobile.

Checked with the store attendant and tried if it would suit me. The rubber temple grip was good and comfortable, even suitable when you running.

The Oakley Crosslink comes in various colors with 2 different sets of temples. I was interested in getting either the matte black + blue or the matte white + maroon at size 53.

You may want to consider the below before purchasing:

  1. Price (pricing may be different at different stores)
  2. The colors set available in store
  3. The frame size (53 or 56)

The shops in One Utama offered me a decent price at RM850 - RM950 with new basic lense. However, most of the stores here doesn't have the color and size that I was looking for.

Finally, bought my new glasses at Sungei Wang, Bukit Bintang at a good cheaper price after seeking advice from my friends. Lucky for me, the color matte black + blue / grey temples at size 53 is available in one of the stores.

The purchase comes with Oakley soft case, hard case, frame with 2 sets of temples and a 1 year warranty. Note that the warranty doesn't apply to the rubber grip on it temple. Heard that you can change the rubber temple at RM60 a pair.

Comments
Love the frame design and color sets. However, you may want to avoid from wearing this glasses in a long sweaty activity. The rubber grip on its temple is not heavy duty like on the Oakley Radar. The rubber may tear and loose its fitting on the temple.

Movies: TuneTalk Prepaid Premier Screening "Here Come The Boom" (Review)

I got an invite for a movie screening last weekend from my colleague  Kirubaleni at work. The movie screening "Here Comes The Boom" was organised by TuneTalk Prepaid.

Why TuneTalk to host such a movie screening? Well, they are one of the sponsors for the upcoming One FC, a MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) sport event.

Looking at the main actor (Kevin James) automatically set my expectation that this will be a fun movie to watch.
The story is about a high school biology teacher looks to become a successful mixed-martial arts fighter in an effort to raise money to prevent extra-curricular activities from being axed at his cash-strapped school.

Now you can go and see it a the movies too.

Nike Fuel Band
The Nike+ FuelBand uses a sports-tested accelerometer to measure your movement in NikeFuel, a universal metric of activity.

How Does It Work

Through a sports-tested accelerometer, Nike+ FuelBand tracks your daily activity including running, walking, basketball, dancing and dozens of everyday activities. It tracks each step taken and calorie burned. It also tells the time of day.

The Nike Fuel Band is designed for the average person and not just for professional athletes or fitness junkies, to achieve our fitness goals.

So is the Nike Fuel Band really worth buying?
I think its a cool fitness accessory to have.

Bad news is, this product is not avalaible yet in Malaysia nor South East Asia. Ebay is another option for immediate purchase. Pricing at the US is now at USD$140 --- Nike Outlet (got an update from a friend there)

Ill update the unboxing once i get my hands on 1.

Merry Christmas!

Running: Penang Bridge International Marathon 2012 (Penang)

Penang Bridge International Marathon 2012
After a series of running events throughout the year, i decided to choose the Penang Bridge International Marathon 2012 (APBIM) as my last run of the year. After losing my half-marathon (21km) virginity at BSN Putrajaya Night Marathon 2012 few weeks earlier, my target for APBIM is to improve my 10km finishing time.
The Penang Bridge International Marathon 2012 was held on 18 November 2012 in Penang. This is the last time for the APBIM organisor to held the running event at the old bridge as from what i heard, they will be doing it at the new bridge.
Since Penang state is consider as my favorite playground, getting around the area was not so difficult. I met my running buddies syah and ash (the teh tarik runner's) as i reached Penang for our cargo-loading session before the running event.

The Run
The 10km runners was flagged-off near to the sunrise time. Me and ash started the race with a strategy to finish before the cut-off time (1:30mins) for its finisher medal.

3km -- The scenery was nice as we were running towards the penang bridge, with ocean breeze towards the sunrise. There was no water station yet at this time.

5km -- my iPhone4 gave up on me. Without my running tracks on my earpods, finishing the race felt like forever - no idea on running time and pace.
10km -- after a few rounds of happy thoughts, me and the teh tarik runners finally finished the race at our expected finishing time.

Noob Blogger

What is Blog?
"Blog" is short for weblog. The phenomenon began sometime in the late 1990s. Independent of each other, a number of Web users began posting daily or regular journal entries on websites. But when these users -- who would soon become known as "bloggers" -- found each other, a community was born.

Writing a blog is simple; you just have to want to do it. You might think that blogging isn't for you, but then again, you may discover that it's a great way to vent your thoughts.

The Noob
At last after dreaming of developing my own blog for the past few years, i finally started my first page with blogger.com. Signed up for this account for sometime, but never did any posting due to my daily life usualy routines.

There are a few topics of blog writing i have in mind:

  1. Travel --- single lone traveller, looking for adventure
  2. Running -- marathon series as i am preparing myself to complete my first marathon (42km)
  3. Gadget --- techy guy with fun toys
  4. Food -- yes, i like taking photo of foods and upload it to my instagram and facebook

Wish me luck!
