Running: Run For A Reason at KL Marathon 2013 (Kuala Lumpur)

Run For A Reason at KL Marathon 2013

"About 33,000 runners took off from the starting lines in Dataran Merdeka and Jalan Parlimen throughout race day, solidifying the Standard Chartered KL Marathon’s position as the largest marathon event in Malaysia".

This was my 2nd year running in Standard Chartered KL Marathon. Registered for 10K Speed while my younger brother +Shafwan Wahab signed up for Full Marathon 42K. This year, my usual running friends Irhash and Sharizal (The Teh Tarik Runners) couldn't make it for this event. One person ndak sempat register, another one darah manis (since mau kahwin suda).

Check out their cool blog:

A lot of runners have been waiting for this event since it was postponed due to the haze issue in Kuala Lumpur earlier.

Running Day
Reached the venue at 5.30am by LRT via Masjid Jamek LRT station. 10K Speed category flag off time was at 6.30am near Jalan Parlimen, about 400 meters away from Dataran Merdeka. The baggage deposit booth was already open as early 3am. Received a luggage tag number stapled to my BIB number as I left my SCKLM bag there.

It was not so hard to find the starting line since there were volunteers with large signage. Mobile toilets were sufficient, located along the area.

My 10K Run
Started my run with good pace at around 6'/km. It was challenging for the 1st KM due to running traffic. Large number of runners in 10K Speed this year. Should have started at the front group instead from the back.

Distance markers were seen at each kilometres. Medical team were available at running check points and also with motorbikes following the race packs. The 10K route was similar with last years. Think the first water station was a bit far though. Luckily I had my water bottles attached during this run.

Running: 25KM & 15KM Newton Challenge 2013 (Selangor)

This is the Malaysian version of Newton Challenge 2013 from Singapore and will be the last running event for the the year 2013 in Malaysia.

Malaysia VS Singapore
This Newton Challenge is a replication of the Newton Challenge held in Singapore.

The difference of this event between Malaysia and Singapore version are the distance and runner's entitlement.

In Malaysia, runners will have option to run at 25KM and 15KM but in Singapore there are 32KM and 18KM option distance. As for runner's entitlement, Newton Challenge 2013 in Singapore will have a finisher polo tee for 32KM finishers. No change on the running vest design, which I think is cool. The colours really got my attention. The running vest size is similar with Singapore's 2XU Compression Run Half Marathon 2013.

Give me a shout if you are running the same.

See you there!

Running: Stronger with Every Step at ReebokΔONE Challenge 2013 (Putrajaya)

Completing the ReebokΔONE Challenge 18.95K 2013

This is a review post of the event from my previous post:

Running Day
Reached the gathering venue 20 minutes before flag off. Ample parking due to event location. Gathering location was the usual spot for most running event in Putrajaya, in front of Istana Kehakiman, Putrajaya. Didn't noticed any pre-run water station at the area. Only able to fill my water bottle at the 1st water station on KM3. Should have prepared my water bottles the night before. Remaining distance markers could be seen at every kilometer.

Managed to do a steady run for 10KM towards the first obstacle. Route was flat with a bit of hill climb along the way.

The Obstacles
The obstacles begun at 10KM mark. Here are the list of obstacles runners have to do to move forward to the finishing line.

Ride The Movies™ at Universal Studios Singapore.
Me in front of Universal Studios signature globe

During the last Malaysia Day holidays, I decided to drive from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore for Big Splash Mizuno Wave Run 2013. Since I was already in Singapore city, a self-photography session in Universal Studios Singapore (USS) was planned.

Parking is available at the Resort World Sentosa. You may want to park your car at the red or orange zone, as it is the nearest to the USS entrance.  Do ensure that your credits on your AutoPass card is more than SGD50 (RM150) if you are driving your foreign vehicles.

Ticket Price
Entrance ticket was at SGD74 (RM192) for adults. However, you can enjoy 10% discount if you bring along your foreign passport or ID.

Since this was my 2nd time visiting USS, I was actually looking forward in riding TRANSFORMERS The Ride: The Ultimate 3D Battle and checking out Sesame Street. These park were not ready yet during my first trip there with my family.

Thank you for the complimentary tickets We Love Asia!

Day 1, Friday (6 September 2013)

It was a hectic day and the traffic was so bad from my office to the Sepang International Circuit. Reached there around 9pm just in time for my favourite performance acts.
Parking was not a problem since the venue provides ample parking spaces. Parking was RM15 per entry.

The artist performance line up for the main stage was great. Enjoyed the acts by DJ Antoine and Pitbul. However, the show was late 30mins from the actual schedule. Only able to check out the other stage from far.

Left early since I came there alone due to concert day and location. But met some friends there.

Travel: Half Day-Trip Snorkelling Pulau Kapas (Terengganu)

This is a very late post of my day-trip experience to Pulau Kapas in Terengganu a few years back.

This was an un-planned trip when I was driving back from Kuala Terengganu to fetch my brother +Shafwan Wahab during his University days. Decided to do a half-day trip to Pulau Kapas before continue our journey back to Kuala Lumpur. Picked Pulau Kapas instead of Perhentian or Redang since wanted to make a quick out-of-city gateway.

Images are captured with my Nokia N95.

About Pulau Kapas
Kapas Island or Pulau Kapas is an island 6 kilometers off the coast of Terengganu, Malaysia. "Kapas" is the Malay word for cotton. It features crystal clear seawater, pristine powdery white beaches and untouched tropical jungle.

How To Get There
Head down to Marang jetty. The boat ride will take you about 15 minutes. You can purchase the boat ticket from the available counter booths at the jetty. Price is around RM30 (return ticket). Do pay attention on the boat ride timing, especially on the last boat trip from the island.

Once reach the island, you can purchase snorkelling packages from the booth. It will cost you around RM25 inclusive of the boat, snorkelling gears and guide.

Travel: Kampung Buang Sayang, Papar (Sabah)

Let me introduce my kampung back at my hometown, "Kampung Buang Sayang".
My kampung is located in the Papar district situated around 30 - 35km from Kota Kinabalu. The journey from Kota Kinabalu to Papar takes approximately 30 - 40 minutes by car. You can also reach there in 1 hour and 30 minutes by train.

Things To Do
Tamu (Sunday market) which opens every Sunday from 6am - 1.30pm is one of the popular spot for local people and people who are passing by Papar to other destinations. The Tamu offers a wide variety of juicy local fruits, unique Sabahan handicrafts, fresh vegetables, fish, and many more.

Why I love my kampung?
Check this pictures and video. Ignore my brother +Shafwan Wahab video-bombing my Keek. My home is located right in front of Sungai Papar.

Below photos captured with my NIKON D5000.

About Papar
The name 'Papar' comes from a Bruneian word meaning 'flat or open land'.[2] Like most of the west coast of Sabah, it was originally ruled by the Bruneian sultanate.
