Running: A Dash of Colour 2014 (Putrajaya)

Running Day
Driving to the venue took about 30 minutes from Kuala Lumpur. I was running with Farrah as my running partner in this fun run. Had to parked at the roadside near to the Taman Wetland main entrance due to first-come-first-serve parking basis in the area. Parking within the park area is limited up to few hundreds only, as mentioned earlier by the organisor thru their Facebook page.

The gathering venue and atmosphere was beautiful with the morning scenic as the sun was just about to rise. Meet up with my colleagues Kirubaleni and Hadi at one of the gazebos in the area. Had to take the pre-group photo of us first before getting our white running tee full of colours.

Beautiful Morning

Participants were given a pack of colour powder to be used during the flag off. However, participants were too excited and already started powdering their friends and families with colours.

Colouring the run
The fun run was flagged with colour powders flying all over the place released into the air by the participants. We were running (actually jogging since it was a fun run) on road until the 2KM mark on trail. At each KM, there was a colour checkpoint with one colour powder for runners to get coloured with. The first water station was available at KM2+ with mineral water. Saw some medical volunteers at checkpoints.

Travel: Gerai Makanan Kacang Pool Haji (Johor)

Johor Bahru (also spelled Johor Baharu, Johor Baru, or Johore Bahru is the capital city of Johor in southern Malaysia, located north of Singapore. Johor Bahru is the southernmost state in Peninsular Malaysia.

Tourism is one of the most important factors for Johor Bahru's economic growth. As at today, Johor Bahru have been signified with Legoland Theme & Water Park, Sanrion Hello Kitty Theme Park, Johor Premium Outlet (JPO) and the Johor -Singapore Causeway.

Just wanted to share one of the popular food spot in Johor Bahru, that must try if you are there. The popular Gerai Kacang Pool Haji located at Medan Selera Larkin Bomba is one of the must try local cuisine very popular in Johor Bahru.

About Kacang Pool
Basically the dish are combination of minced meat and peanut similar like the one used for 'satay" with some vege herbs. Dish is best served during breakfast, but still suitable at any meal of the day. Here are some reviews from Foursquare check-in's.

Price at RM5 (as at March 2014), you will get a bowl of kacang pool with egg, plus a thick toast bread.

Running: Brooks RUN HAPPY 2014 (Selangor)

Running Day
Reached the event venue 40 minutes before flag off time. Direction markers were seen once I entered MAEPS main gate towards the parking area. Parking was ample with more than 3,000 parking bays in the area. Head to the gathering area making new friends like Gary (if not mistaken) and partner during the short warm-up.

Was looking for a water station for pre-hydration but none to be seen in the starting area. Flag off were delayed 15 - 20 minutes from actual schedule. Not sure why, but guessing that the organisor was not really prepared for flag off.

At about KM2, runners had to get their shoes dirty by running on grass with muddy condition. The first obstacle was the river stream crossing. A bit of a traffic at that sector since runners were trying their best step use the rocks not to get their shoes wet.

The morning scenic throughout the course was beautiful with beautiful ponds / lakes and greenish environment especially from the top of the watch tower. Saw a few horses at the stable area too.

Travel: KLIA2 - Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (Sepang)

On May 9th, 2014, AirAsia Malaysia was officially relocated its operation from Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) to Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2).

Lucky me, I was also flying with the airline on the same day to Jakarta, Indonesia for a running event there. Tons of communications about the new airport including how to get around the area have been shared thru social medium like Facebook and email blasts to passengers.

Getting To KLIA2
Getting to KLIA2 is easy. No much change on the public transportation from KL Sentral located in the main city. Public transport fee from KL Sentral is still RM8 - RM10 which takes about 50 minutes - 1 hours journey depends on traffic. There is KLIA Express services too. Fee is standard at RM35 one way which operates until 12.30am.

I was impressed with the public bus parking facility. Upon entering the public bus area for passengers drop-off, there was an automatic parking bay indication on the gate screens.

Passengers will need to walk thru the new airport mall where you could find tons of retail shops and restaurants towards the main airport terminal.

Here are some photos of the area from my iPhone5.

Running: #SafeRunning with Pocari Sweat Run Jakarta 2014 (Indonesia)

Last weekend on 11 May 2014, I completed my second running race event in Indonesia. The Pocari Sweat Run Jakarta 2014 was held the week after I completed my run at Borneo International Marathon 2014. Flew in to Jakarta city with AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur 2 days before the race day.

Read more about the registration from my earlier post: http://xeon204.blogspot.com/2014/03/running-pocari-sweat-run-jakarta-2014.html

Race Pack Collection Day
Managed to collect my race pack on the last day of Race Pack Entry Collection (RPEC) at Senayan FX in the evening straight after I safely landed at Terminal 3 - Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Indonesia. Race pack collection was fast and efficient. Plus, I was one of the few participant there to collect the race kit. I assume most participants already collected their race kit during day 1 and day 2. The volunteers were very helpful to attend on your enquiries too.

Inside the race bag, you will find:
  • Official Event Adidas Running Tee
  • Race Bib
  • Runner's Guidebook
  • Pocari Sweat Water Bottle (1000L)
  • Adidas Discount Voucher
  • Pocari Sweat Drawstring Bag
  • Shuttle Bus Tag
  • Other goodies from sponsors and partners

Running Day
As there was shuttle bus services for participants to the race venue, I left the hotel and reached Senayan FX at about 3.40 am local time. I managed to make some new friends during the 20 - 30 minutes journey to Alam Sutera located at Tangerang. Im guessing that some of them were members of IndoRunners, an active running community in Indonesia. My Malaysian friend Norheriety who is working in Jakarta was there too.

Weather was fine when I reached the race venue. Finding the baggage deposit area was easy since there were big and clear signages around the area. I was given a number sticker tag where I could paste on my race bib upon baggage deposit.

40 minutes before flag off, a sudden downpour happens at the venue. Runners had to take cover in the shopping mall parking area with their fingers crossed so that the race will continue as planned.

The 10K category was flagged off at 6am ++ due to the bad weather earlier. There was a quick group warm up at the starting line before that. I started the 10K run with my new found friend, Wizza Wirastyo at the front group. Check out my Keek videos below.

I was running with the Adidas King of The Road (KOTR) 2012 blue vest instead of using the official running tee. Was planning to wear it during the flight back home later that day.

Running: Borneo International Marathon 2014 (Sabah)

You Pace or Mine? May The Fourth Be With You!

On May 4th, 2014, I successfully ran in the Borneo International Marathon 2014 held in my very hometown, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Had registered earlier as when the registration was open for the early bird fee. Since this was my first time joining, I decided to go with the 10K distance. My younger brother had his 4th full marathon 42K (if not mistaken) on this event. People asked me why 10K only? I should participate in the Full Marathon 42K distance since this is my hometown. But I would prefer to run towards city and enjoy the morning scene in KK city more since I have been spending most of my time in Kuala Lumpur.

Race Pack Collection Day
Reached Kota Kinabalu city with AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur on the last day of race pack collection (RPEC) day held in Suria Sabah located 10 minutes away from Terminal 2 Kota Kinabalu Airport. RPEC was managed smoothly when I arrived. I just have to hand over my registration receipt and sign my name on the runners list. Can see many of outstation runners on that day. Bumped with some runner friends from LYN Runners too.

There were some exhibition booths at the venue. Not sure about promotions but participants could buy good running accessories from compression gears, hydration kit and others. Heard that Rock Tape sold out from one of the booths.
