Running: Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2014 (Kuala Lumpur)

Hours after completing my 3rd anniversary half marathon at BSN Putrajaya Night Marathon 2014, I was already back home preparing for 10K in Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2014.

Similar to last year, race pack collection was held at Dataran Underground, Dataran Merdeka few days prior to race day on 12 October 2014, Sunday. Exhibition booths by partners and sponsors were available with products promotions. Had the chance to meet my x-colleague, Aishah managing the race pack collection at the counter. Saw the avid runner Mohd Azmi with friends checking out merchandise promotions at the expo too.

Race Day
My young brother +Shafwan Wahab was already on his way to the starting line at 4.30am for his Full Marathon.

No problem getting to the race venue as LRT service (PUTRA) was available since 3am in conjunction with the event. Had to rush myself to the starting line since I woke up late 1 hours before flag off at 6.15am. Decided to run with my backpack along since I didn't have much time to go to the baggage deposit counter.

Category signages by the volunteers sure help to navigate to the start area. This year, the starting line for 10K was in front of SOGO KL.

Weather was a little hazy and humid. The race course was nearly similar to KL Car Free Day, organised by DBKL every 1st week Sunday of the month. Never ran on that week yet though. The route selected was very scenic with Kuala Lumpur iconic towers in sight. Ran on Kuala Lumpur main road such as Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Ampang. Passed by the iconic KLCC Twin Tower with KL Tower in sight.

Saw many PNM2014 FM and HM participants wearing their finisher tee running in this category. Saw a HCC friend, Vincent Ooi running too. Heard that it was his first official 10K race. Good job buddy!

Running: Mandiri Jakarta Marathon 2014 (Jakarta) #JAKMAR2014

Signed up to run at Mandiri Jakarta Marathon 2014 (JAKMAR2014) this year held at the National Monument (MONAS) on 26 October. Was running in the 10K category with my local buddy Suryanto.

This race was my 3rd official race in Jakarta after BAJAKJKT 2013 and Pocari Sweat Jakarata 2014.

Race Pack Collection
Straight went to Jakarta Convention Centre (JCC) located near to Stadion Utama Gelora Bung Karno by taxi once landed in Jakarta. There were a few major event happening at the race pack collection venue on that day like Java Sound Fest 2014 and a Fashion Bazaar.

Bazaar Fashion Festival
Java Sounds Fair 2014
Navigated to the race pack collection area according to the signages placed around the area. Saw tons of volunteers with the 'ASK ME' shirt ready to assist participants. I was asked twice by them when I was strolling around the area.

Had a chat with a friendly runner couple while I was checking out my vest size at the race pack expo area.

Getting to the race area (MONAS) was convenient for me since I was staying at a hotel less than 1KM away. This was to avoid additional spending on taxi fare. Also, most major road near to MONAS were closed prior to the event.

Running: Nike WE RUN Series 2014 - 2015

Now in their sixth year, Nike’s We Run races range in distance from 7K to a full marathon and reflect the particular enthusiasm of each city. From Seoul to Soweto, Mexico City to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur to Guatemala, runners will be moved to action through a series of unique experiences. Tailored to the individual city, the We Run races bring together athletes and local musicians and build on the aesthetic of each landscape through carefully designed run courses.

In today’s fast-paced world, runners demand more than just a typical 10K. They expect new challenges that will push their boundaries and test their limits. They want to celebrate their milestones with their friends and running communities.

This season's Nike's We Run race highlights will include a variety of different course distances to challenge athletes. For the first time, several of the race cities, including Seoul, Kuala Lumpur and Mexico City will be 21K races. Nike is also connecting the running community with a series of pre-race training runs organized through their local Nike+ run clubs.

Running: BSN Putrajaya Night Marathon 2014 (Putrajaya)

It was my first Half-Marathon at BSN Putrajaya Night Marathon 2012. This year, I came back running the same category celebrating my 3rd year HM anniversary at the same event.

The only difference this year was the race date, 11 October which was held less than 24 hours with an international marathon event, the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2014 (SCKLM) - 12 October 2014.

I was running alone without any running buddies this year. My brother +Shafwan Wahab had to get enough rest to prepare for his Full Marathon at SCKLM.

Running Day
Parked my car near to the so called Masjid Besi located few hundreds metres away from the event area. There were volunteers as early at 6pm managing the parking spots for participants.

Met my local Sabahan runners Hazazi and friends at the PNM2014 event area before flag off at 8.15pm. There were Annie and Kelvin from team Honda City Club (HCC) running their first 10K distance and some familiar runner friends too.

Weather was a bit humid and warm due to the haze condition. The haze API was still suitable for the event organisor to continue as planned.

Running route was different from the previous year. Straight road with few loops within the Putrajaya district. Water stations and medical volunteers were located at about every 3KM. Water sponge was available after the KM10 mark.

Unboxing: HALO Belt 1.0

Got my hands on a HALO Belt 1.0 version earlier this week. HALO Belt has been on my wish-list since it was proposed on Kickstarter.

About HALO Belt
Halo Belt designed to save lives. It is an illuminated reflective belt that provides optimal visibility and safety for its user.

The HALO is powered by LEDs that emits lighting through a custom designed thermoplastic polyurethane fiber optic. The TPU fiber optic is then in-housed in premium structured polyester/nylon belt with a quicksnap release buckle.

The battery life can last up to 75 non-consecutive hours depending on the flash mode. If it is on solid mode, It last for about 20 hours straight. It has the same battery life of most bike lights.

Unboxing 1.0
The HALO Belt 1.0 comes in a plastic tube with an information and battery replacement guide card in it, different from the 2.0. Upon detaching the plastic holder, the HALO Belt functions by using the power button which is located behind the HALO label section.

The adjustable elastic can be modified from size 0 to 46. The adjustment clip can also go adjusted through the fiber optics when necessary.

There are 3 types of lighting modes to choose from - Solid, Flash (Fast-Flash) and Strobe (Slow-Flash). However the 2.0 version is simplified to only two modes.
